What are Therapeutic Laser Treatments?

Basically laser therapy involves the use of a high quality laser of a specific wavelength of infrared light directed at tissue in order to promote cellular and tissue healing with resultant reductions in pain. The laser is a noninvasive, non-burning, therapeutic device.

What conditions can be treated?

Laser therapy is used to treat a wide variety of painful conditions. We treat cervical, thoracic and lumbar pain, hip and knee pain, shoulder, arm and leg pain, headache and facial pain, foot and ankle pain, wrist and hand pain.

How long do individual treatments take?

Most treatments are between 10 to 20 minutes in duration.

How many treatments are needed?

This varies from patient to patient and the type of pain being treated. However, the range is usually between 10 to 20 treatments over a 4 to 6 week period. Typically patients will have between 2 to 4 treatments a week.

When will I start to feel relief?

Most chronic pain conditions require time and multiple treatments in order to experience extended pain relief. While, it is not unusual to start noticing change within the first few treatments, laser therapy does require patience and persistence.

How long does the pain relief last?

Once tissue responds and the pain cycle is broken patients can have months and even years’ worth of relief. Touch up treatments can be done if needed.

Does it hurt?

No. Treatments are non-invasive, and while you may feel warmth, it is typically soothing and actually feels good.

Who administers the treatments?

We use trained technicians familiar with laser therapy protocols and laser device function.

What kind of outcomes can one expect?

Most patients (80 to 90%) will see reductions in pain of 70 to 100 percent. This is favorable when compared to standard medical treatments (Medications, Physical therapy, Injections, Surgery, etc.) where 30 to 50% temporary relief is typical. As with any pain condition there are those that see no benefit (10 to 20%). They may require extended treatments and/or other therapeutic modalities.

What’s the downside of Laser Therapy?

It takes time, patience and persistence in order to achieve consistent results. While the treatments only take 10 to 20 minutes, it does require coming to the office 2 to 4 times per week often for 4 to 6 weeks.
